Quick facts:

  • Uranus is the furthest planet that you can see without a telescope.
  • Uranus is the only planet that rotates or spins, on it's side.

  • Uranus is a giant ball of gas and liquid .It's diameter at the equator is 31,763 miles, over four times the Earth. The surface of Uranus consists of blue green clouds made up of tiny crystal methane. It takes Uranus 30,685 earth days or 84 Earth years to orbit the Sun.It rotates about it's axis once every 17 hours and 14 minutes.Uranus is composed of about 83% hydrogen 15% helium, 2% methane, and tiny amounts of ethane and other gases. The temperature on this planet is about -355 degrees fareinheit (-215 degrees celcius) .

  • The planet Uranus has at least 22 moons. The two largest moons Titania (below) and Oberon were discovered by William Herschel in the year 1787.
  • Titania is Uranus largest moon. It's marked by a few large impact basins but is generally covered with small craters and very rough rocks. It takes about 9 days for this moon to make an orbit the same time it takes for it to make a rotation. The temperature of this moon is -315 degrees fareinheit.
  • Oberon is a moon that is characterized by an old, heavily crated and icy surface. This moon takes 13 days to make a orbit the same it takes for it to make a rotation.
